Rated 5 out of 5 by TxTurkeyHunter from The Mitchell 300 Pro Spinning Reel I bought this Spinning Reel at Henry's on Chicago's South side up hole on vacation. Got a deal on it too. Anyway, fast forward to Austin, TX. Just yesterday, I caught five Largemouth Bass. Four of those, I caught and released due to the fact that they were small. However, my third catch was a 3.5 lb. BEAST. The Mitchell 300 Pro handled the catch effortlessly!!! Very SMOOTH in it's operation and the drag works quite well. I use monofilament on all of my Mitchell Spinning reels (310, 308, 300, 308 Pro, & 300 Pro). However, I think I will be using Braided line on some of them in the future. The Mitchell 300 Pro is well worth the money. I'm glad Mitchell is back. It is TRULY the standard of QUALITY!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cajun7899 from Great Reel I own one of the original 300's. I have had it since I bought it in 1963. This newer 300 PRO is fantastic incorporating all of the features that are available in higher priced reels. The 300 PRO has great balance when retrieving line and during the fight to land a saltwater fish. The anti reverse is smooth operating with the drag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Closecall5 from Very durable and butter smooth I bought this reel last spring as I often fish for northeast pike and bass. It needed to be tough and reliable. I'll be handing this reel down to my kids in 20 years much in the same way I received my first Mitchell from my father.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Reignblood from A very tough light weight reel I bought a 300c and liked it so much I picked up a 300 pro! After testing all the competitors in the price bracket it was a no brainer. Light weight, tough materials and all the features that make this reel unique. I love the bail halo design!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Posse96 from Smooth Cranking w/Good Drag Operation I purchased my 300Pro last June at Ernie's while fishing in June Lake, CA. I have my grandfather's Mitchell 300 reels and love them since I was a kid. I was cleaning and restoring one of them, so while picking up a new rod, decided to get a new reel to get me through the day. This 300Pro did not disappoint. The spin is smooth and weight balanced well. I set the drag easily and alternated between 2lb, 4lb and 6lb on the reel to give it a test; generally I tend to stick with 4lb/6lb. I like the 300Pro's Max drag weight of 14 lbs, in case I land that whopper trout (one in our party caught a 4.5lb rainbow, so there's hope). I would opt for the 300Pro vs the 308 or 310 due to the higher drag limit, but that's my preference. I paired this reel up with a 5'6" Okuma rod which resulted in one flexible rod with one smooth reel. I recommend this reel to any Mitchell fans and to those new to fishing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BobW from GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT I attached the new reel to a new rod, tied on the line and started reeling, loading the spool. The guide that moves the line back on forth to evenly wind the line did not move. $70 plus postage and was a dud. Then $9.75 postage to send it back as Mitchell would not pay for their defective reel to return it. Now waiting for a replacement. Not a happy customer. Their Quality Control department needs training. Their customer service dept. needs to pay postage on defective products.
