Rated 5 out of 5 by Joey G from A lifetime of fishing My Mitchell 300 is now 38 years old. I have used it for species of freshwater fish there is. Try gettin 50 bullhead with any other reel in one outing and that reel will not go with you the next time. It will be garbage. The Mitchell 300 horses any fish in especially bullhead, bullhead are the strongest toughest fish I know of. I used my reel in the ocean plenty of times too, it beats all, took on that salt water like it was the same as fresh water. I have horsed up 10 pound Walleyes from 40 feet down with this 300, walk in the park, never a problem. I just oiled it, don't even have to do that. Best reel ever, PERIOD!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by mbelluso from Money Well Spent This reel is a classic. Easy to use, precision where it counts, pretty much bullet proof. Hard to put a value on how much fun my old friend and I have had together. I found another twin to my original while searching the Goodwill for vinyl albums. Overjoyed. Cleaned and lubed both-new again. Fish beware, I'm coming for ya.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TxTurkeyHunter from The Legendary Mitchell 308 Spinning Reel I purchased the Mitchell 308 Spinning Reel after checking out a few reviews that were quite favorable. They actually convinced me to purchase one and I was not disappointed one bit. With the eight ball bearings, operation is "smooth as butter." This is something to cherish when you're working hard at bringing in a nice size Bass or Catfish. The Bale works when it's supposed to and that's awesome. I've had other Spinning Reels that I got rid of because of Bale issues. None of that stuff with the Mitchell 308. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase and recently purchased a Mitchell 300. I can't wait to try out that reel as well. Thanks Mitchell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shaun from Best Spinning Reel on the market I bought this reel as a rod/reel combo from Sportsmans Warehouse. I have had it for over 3 months and every time I use this reel it fits my hand like a glove. It has smooth action, great gear ratio, and reliable parts. I have never had a reel like this and would purchase another one if given the option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jaybird1959 from Since I was A Boy. I gave been fishing with a 300 since I was a boy. I got my first one in the mid 70's when they were all Black and Pot metal. I fished it till I broke it, Then I got another one. I first used it Salt Water fishing. Growing up in Southern Cali and fishing off the Ventura pier. The Reel NEVER stopped working, even after it Broke. But I couldn't Mount it back on a rod.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mike 21 from Old reel was so much better I have an old Mitchell 300 that I had for a long time that I like a lot but I can't say the same for the new reel. It is cheaper than the old one because you can't get extra spools and it is made out of plastic unlike the original ones. The new reel is ok but I would prefer if they just remake the old one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trout Fisherman 1961 from Great durability . built to last , and ease of use i have bought several differant reels over the years. abu Garcia's mostly , but my favorite among them all is the mitchell 300. the one i use most is the one i bought over 30yrs. ago. i use it most of the time now. mostly when trout fishing, but for red eye fishing also.. it still works great. i have had to replace a spring or two in the last few years but that is all. i do have a couple newer Mitchell's i use for fishing for bass and other game fish that is on a heavier action rod with heavier line on the reel. i just trout fish the most. another great thing about the Mitchell 300 is how easy it is to change the spool. i have a couple extra spools with differant size lines on them. i can switch to a heavier line in seconds. first Mitchell 300 i ever used was my dad's. i just had to have one of my own after that. Dad still uses the Mitchell 300 too, and has at least 3 of them

Rated 5 out of 5 by Reignblood from Features on a budget I picked my first Mitchell 300 at Walmart for under $40 and immediately put it through the test! We took 22 bass and crappie on the first day. The reel cast smooth I can chuck a crappie jig 40 yards all day long and have the sun burn to prove it. If I had a cast counter I would say it was up around 400 with zero fail using 12lbs. Mono.
